2019 #makenine … well, make five

It might have become apparent by now that I struggle to stick to deadlines & wishlists for my sewing – and blogging. I have attempted the Make Nine challenge the last couple of years. It’s just that with every new pattern release, or fabric shop, there is something more exciting to play with!

The best sewing decision I ever made was signing up to a jeans-making course in Glasgow at The Stitchery (now closed while the lovely Cassandra finishes her masters). I relished the challenge of jeans-making, and it led to me taking more care and patience in my sewing.

So enter my #makefive…. Continue reading

Me and Marcy

Pattern: Vogue 9057
Made before?I have now made quite a few of these!
Will make again? Oh yeah – me and Marcy Tilton patterns – this top, the cirque dress (V9112) and V8876 along with variations of the tube skirt, form my most worn me-mades. Discovering this top has been a joy! It more than successfully replaces the store-bought tunic tops I have habitually worn – and I can make tunics, short sleeved and long sleeved tops. Perfect!
Adjustments? The only adjustment I’ve made is to add some bands to the end of the sleeves in a contrasting mesh which I also used for the neckband in View A of the pattern. I also often don’t buy enough fabric to cut both front and back on the fold, so some of the tops have a seam at the back.
Inspiration: Store-bought tunics/tops from Taking Shape, Motto and the like.

Fabric: I’ve made this in various weights and stretchiness of knit fabrics. The black one is a crepe, and the jungley one is scuba. The lighter weights I tend to wear with a camisole underneath. Continue reading

Two little Ensos in the sun…

Today we were lucky enough in Melbourne to have beautiful Spring-like sunshine! Technically Spring is still a month away, but the sun is tricking us all – even our daffodils are blooming early!

Pattern: Enso jumper by Renee Callahan.
Made before? These are the two versions I have made, and I have another WIP
Will make again? Definitely, I love how this fits and how easy it is!
Adjustments? These are cropped versions, and in the vest I have left off the sleeves and the rib neckline.
Inspiration: A similar cropped version I saw at The Wool Kitchen’s stand at Edinburgh Yarn Festival 2017 (another Helen!)
Yarn: The pale version is made in Dandelion Yarns Organic Merino, the vest is in Marvel Denim Effects 12ply from Spotlight.
