Why I’m breaking up with my skinny jeans

Dear Skinnies,

It’s over. I thought we were soul mates, but you’ve let me down too many times. Too many broken promises – to make me look slimmer, to be effortlessly cool, to be timeless. Like all those old flames, I ignored the niggling feelings and kept insisting you were perfect for me. Fixing a crotch seam here, taking a hem up there, noting my favourite fibre content – but there is no cotton-nylon ratio which will make all my dreams come true.

We are never, ever, ever, getting back together.

I mean, maybe, but not in March.

P.S don’t call me. Continue reading

Pattern: Retro Burda 4632 Catty found for me at a local op shop
Made before? I made a pair back in 2016 which didn’t fit very well and I ended up throwing out.
Will make again? Yes, these are perfect for work and work/night transitions. I have some more check fabric, and I’d like a black pair too. Do you think I could make these in a stretch cotton and have them be more fitted?? Comment below!
Adjustments? I ended up fiddling with the pleats at the front a bit, and sewing them down.
Inspiration: Definitely post The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel bingeing… You can also check out my Pinterest board on this style!
Fabric: Cotton from Remnant Warehouse

My 2018 sewing makes..

I’m jumping on the bandwagon of summarising last year’s makes! Taking these 2018 makes out of my wardrobe made me think about what worked best, what I am still missing, and where my sewing needs to improve (or become more practical). I encourage you to do this as well, formally or informally, and let me know how you go in the comments!

Made before? No, I bought this sample pattern for $5 from Style Arc on the shopping trip before Frocktails!
Will make again? Yes, I love how this pattern looked
Adjustments? I didn’t include the underlay pieces
Inspiration: I think I’ve seen shirts in this shape around the streets of Carlton, but nothing specific.
Fabric: Chartreuse/Gold colour I think silk? Or some sort of twill? I’m terrible at identifying fabric. I bought this from a friend who was clearing out her stash!

2019 #makenine … well, make five

It might have become apparent by now that I struggle to stick to deadlines & wishlists for my sewing – and blogging. I have attempted the Make Nine challenge the last couple of years. It’s just that with every new pattern release, or fabric shop, there is something more exciting to play with!

The best sewing decision I ever made was signing up to a jeans-making course in Glasgow at The Stitchery (now closed while the lovely Cassandra finishes her masters). I relished the challenge of jeans-making, and it led to me taking more care and patience in my sewing.

So enter my #makefive…. Continue reading
