Little Black Skirt

Pattern: Simplicity 1370
Made before? Yes, I’ve blogged about it here.
Will make again? yes, I love this view & I have another version in the works with a slightly more retro feel.
Adjustments? Raised the waist seam to make it sit at a high natural waist, and graded between size 10 at the waist and 12 at the hips.

Fabric: Suede backed scuba from Remnant Warehouse – they don’t seem to have any more in stock, but you could try this super cool fabric. Continue reading

What I’ve been sewing to…

I don’t know how you working mothers do it.

I know I have a tendency to get over-excited about the 3,000 things I’m planning, set way too many goals, and end up feeling disappointed…but this semester has kind of taken the cake. Two fashion history-orientated research projects, as well as my other subject at uni, a video series to produce for YouTube (with accompanying sewing), a do-over of the blog and more frequent posts, finally getting a gym membership, and auditions for a reality TV show (my lips are sealed, please don’t tempt me to tell!)

Made before? This was technically the first time I made it, although I didn’t finish it until after I’d made this version, and I’ve also made a version for my sister.
Will make again? yes, I’d like to try this hack again, and maybe without the bell sleeves.
Adjustments? I hacked this to have pintucks on either side of the CF seam.

Fabric: Bee Print Cotton Poplin from Minerva Crafts Continue reading

Cocktail hour…

Pattern: A hack of the Sew Over It Alex Shirt & the Merchant & Mills Factory Dress
Made before? Yes, I’d started making the Alex shirt in a cotton, and I’d made the Factory Dress a few times including this version.
Will make again? Probably, although I’m going to have another go at the Alex Shirt on its own.
Adjustments? The hack is the main adjustment
Inspiration: you can check out my shirt obsession here
Fabric: Cocktail O’Clock Viscose Crepe from Fabric Godmother – it’s no longer available but how I long for a shirt in this mustard daisy crepe…If only postage to Australia wasn’t so expensive! Continue reading

a dove for dancing…

Pattern: Dove Blouse by Megan Nielsen
Made before? Yes I have, but I haven’t blogged it yet…no, this blog is never in make order!
Will make again? Yes, although I am starting to doubt the practicality of these sleeves!
Adjustments? I hacked it to make a dress, more on that below
Inspiration: Check out some of my inspiration here
Fabric: This was a jersey from Spotlight, but this polyester crepe from Minerva Crafts would be a beautiful version in a woven. Check out what I used that fabric for here. Continue reading
